| ABT meets the Murray - Mildura VIC |
Got One Mildura (VIC) |
Ever wanted to compete in an ABT (Australian Bream Tournament) competition but aren't sure how or where to go? Well, here's your chance to have a go. The "Callop Classic" is being held in Wentworth, on the Murray River, during the weekend of October 13th and 14th. The comp will be run following the ABT regulations and will be a real scoop for the area.
Some of the regulations include minimum boat length 3.7m, minimum motor 20HP, 60 litre live tank to keep up to 5 fish alive in, jackets to be worn while boats are on the plane, amongst others. The comp is strictly targeting yellow belly (Golden Perch/Callop) and is a cast and retrieve lure tournament only. There will be no bait fishing or lure trolling allowed. Cod removed from the water for any reason would result in disqualification as the comp is held in the cod off season.
With the rapid rise in the enthusiasm for sport fishing on the Murray for yellas and cod, this style of tournament will be great for the area and really put us on the map in the tournament calendar. The use of spinnerbaits, jackall-style lipless crankbaits and small lures will dominate the comp and should prove to be a lot of fun. Yellas hit like a freight train and give a great fight on light gear in anyone's language. Light baitcasters or medium spin gear are the go, maybe one weight heavier than bream.
The weather will be superb in Mildura/Wentworth in October with warm days in the early 30s after mild over-night temperatures. If you are familiar with the area, or want to try something really different, make the effort and come up for the weekend. Briefing will be on the Friday night before the comp starts. The places are limited to 50 teams ($100 per team of two), so act quickly!! Prizes include half the entry fees (so up to $2500) plus sponsorship (I have put up five $100 vouchers).
See you up here!!
