2007 Barra Nationals, Daly River NT

Another extremely successful Barra Nationals was held on the Daly River , N.T. during the week 23-28 April 2007.  Got One were fortunate to have entered two teams this year, Got One and Got One Two.   One hundred and sixty fishers in 55 teams fished in hot conditions in a bid to take out honours in what is known as one of the Territory’s, if not Australia’s top barramundi fishing tournaments.  More than 1080 fish were caught overall during the 5 day tournament, with only four fishers failing to catch a fish.

Got One skippered by Craig Grosvenor – Darwin Franchisee/Store Owner finished 6^th overall with Got One Two finishing mid-field.

Only barbless hooks or hooks with crimped barbs are allowed to be used during the tournament and fishing is also restricted to trolling or casting hard bodied lures and soft plastics.  Each competitor is also required to spool their reels with braid supplied by the tournament organizers.  All fish must be landed by using an Environet and once the fish has been measured, released back into the water to fight another day.

Points are awarded for Barramundi only and fish must be larger than 40 cm to score.  Lengths of all fish are recorded and this data assists the Northern Territory Fisheries, Barramundi Research Unit.  Points increase progressively depending on the length of the Barramundi {e.g. 40cm Barra earns the team 5 points, compared to a 1M Barra which earns the team 360 points}!

Team Got One Two managed to land a 1M Barra unfortunately it was caught on Orientation Day and not during the actual tournament – see picture.
