Choppin' for Land Locked Barra
Craig Grosvenor [Darwin NT]

What better day than a Wednesday to jump aboard an Albatross Helicopter in search of land-locked Billabong Barramundi…..a glance at the Got One Tide Times revealed a full moon phase, not normally my choice of the moon cycle to fish for Barra during daylight hours but never the less better than working!!

And better than work it was with Barra to 85cm slamming Cultiva Tango Dancer surface lures in anger, the hard part was  setting the hooks! These surface walking popeye mullet imitations prove irresistible in these waters…landlocked Barramundi can get damn hungry in the dry season!

What a Screamer!

Mick 'The Fairy' Fair with his 7.85kg Snapper!

Another of my favourite lures, the River 2 Sea TriHo Minnow HA-09 also rattled a few good fish when worked real slow along the rooty edges. In narrow, snaggy country it takes little time for big fish to bury themselves in timber after engulfing a lure and didn’t we learn that! A handful of lures and leaders down, but still all smiles the action slowly levelled off around midday so it was back in the air for a billabong hop home.

Not a bad days work!

If you haven’t experienced a day chasing Top End Barramundi via helicopter, do yourself a favour…grab two of your best mates with good day jobs, $550 per head and get into it!
