Charles de Beer - Woodvale Store Owner

Woodvale Store Owner/ Franchisee Charles de Beer has been fishing, diving, and boating in West Australian waters since childhood. As a small child Charles’ first wet a line dangling over the side of the now long gone, North Beach Jetty. A few years later he could be found at Brighton Beach, just across the road from his childhood home on West Coast Hwy, fishing for Tailor and Whiting. Over the years he has moved through many aquatic pursuits including Spear-Fishing, Surfing, Scuba Diving, Beach, River, and Boat Fishing, and finally Light Tackle Sports Fishing.

Charles considers his most memorable catch a Black Marlin which he caught and released from his 5.6m tinnie just to the south of Tantabiddy at Exmouth. It was one of those satisfying moments you get when fishing out of your own boat with rigs you tied yourself, bait you caught yourself (Garfish caught off Hillarys!), and a plan that finally comes together!

Colleen de Beer - Woodvale Store Owner
Kerry Jones - Co-Manager

Colleen grew up in a boating, sailing, and fishing family and spent much of her childhood time over at Rottnest Island or on the Swan River. With 4 children to look after most of Colleens’ fishing is now done during the school holidays on family trips to Kalbarri, Shark Bay, Coral Bay, Exmouth , Broome, or down south to Albany or Dunsborough.

Colleen, regardless of the technological advances in fishing techniques and some impressive catches on rod and reel, still prefers the simple art of fishing from boats with hand-lines. With the typical “womans’ touch” Colleen more often than not will out-fish everyone else on the boat!

Kerry, Colleen and Charles’ Brother-in-Law, is the co-manager of the Woodvale store. With a typical boyhood in Perth, Kerry has spent many years fishing, crabbing, and prawning both in Perth waters and Mandurah. He has continued these piscatorial pursuits over the years and now tends to fish as much as possible from boats in waters around Perth and Rottnest as well as up North.

Kerry likes nothing better than spending his time chasing, what many West Australians consider the ultimate catch, the succulent West Australian Dhufish.

Matthew Gillett - Sales Manager

Fishing from the age of 6, Matthew Gillett spent schools holidays catching nearly everything the south coast had to offer. Easter meant the annual Salmon run, and summer meant soaking big baits on the beach at night.

A move to Christmas Island in the late 90’s furthered Matts’ interest and experience in small boat sportfishing. Numerous Wahoo, Tuna, and Trevally were all taken from his 4.5m tinny while fishing the waters around Christmas Island.

Moving back to Perth meant finding still more sportfishing species. Matt enjoys fishing for the usual local species such as Skippy and Tailor however over the last couple of years catching Bream on lures has become Matts’ passion, and Fly-fishing his latest challenge.

Richard Netes - Sales

Richard Netes has an impressive “Piscatorial Pedigree”. Richard has an extensive background in Game Fishing having spent six seasons working on Game Boats out of Sydney. As a result he is highly experienced in Switch Baiting, Live Baiting and Lure Trolling for Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, along with Yellowfin Tuna and many other game-fish species.

Having traveled the world extensivley, Richard has also experienced a broad range of other fishing styles and techniques. His highlights include chasing big North Island trout on New Zealands’ Tongariro River, and sight casting to browns in Jindabyne.

Richard has spent many years in the northern parts of Australia, a number of those living and fishing in Broome. He has spent many months in the Cape York area chasing all manner of “flats fish” on fly and spin gear.

Having grown up in Perth and having finally settled here again, Richard has a broad knowledge of local techniques and hotspots and he is more than happy to share his wealth of experience with his customers.

Darren Douche` - Sales

Local Perth boy Darren has a wealth of experience to share with his Got One Woodvale customers. Similar to his fellow staff members Darren’s first fishing experiences were chasing small “bread and butter” species off the northern suburbs beaches, breakwaters, and marinas.

Darren soon found himself in boats heading out into deeper waters fishing for both bottom and pelagic species however his search for new fishing experiences found him back on-shore experimenting in Fresh-water Fly Fishing.

Darren spent many hours, not only on our SW dams, but also over in New Zealand perfecting his Fly-fishing techniques.

Back in Perth , Darren soon went off on another completely different fishing tangent and started working on Charter Fishing, Pearling, and Cray Fishing vessels. This enabled Darren to experience fishing in places many of us just get to dream off…the Kimberley’s, the Abrolhos Islands, and the Montebello’s to name a few.

Darren now brings his expertise in fishing techniques, rigging skills, and general fishing knowledge to

Got One Woodvale and we are sure our customers will appreciate his willingness to share his knowledge.

Paul Cunningham - Sales

Paul was fishing as soon as he could hold a rod in his hands. It didn’t matter if he caught anything, as long as his feet were wet and he could cast, he was happy. As he grew up in Perth , Paul experienced the best of what the city and the rest of Western Australia has to offer.

On his numerous family holidays around the state, he fished from remote Cape Arid to the east of Esperance right the way around to False Entrance, Exmouth and recently right the way up to Kununurra. Venturing overseas Paul fished for trout in Lake Rotorua and went to Ireland in 2005 between graduating high school and starting uni. While in Ireland he fished with one of Northern Irelands best Fly Fisho’s, Sam Mills, and sight cast to some amazing trout.

Paul now targets what he can, using a fly rod. Nothing is more satisfying to him than catching a fish using a fly he made. Some of his most memorable catches include a morning spent with his little brother, Andrew, in Exmouth. Armed with Bream gear and a fly rod, they caught and released an assortment of big Spanglies, Queenies and Trevally. In the future Paul is hoping to head back up north or even to Weipa and is keen to get more into kayak fishing.

Brody Laroux - Sales

Brody started fishing around the age of 6 with his early targets being bread and butter species at Ledge Point and big swan river crabs. He would spend all his school holidays and every spare weekend fishing, fishing, and more fishing!

At the age of 10 Brody caught his first Dhufish in the shallow waters off Ledge Point and after this Brody and his dad continued to target Dhuies successfully in very shallow water.

Brody now leans towards Sports-fishing and after chasing Bream on lures since 2002 he entered his first Bream tournament in 2004. The following year Brody won the Non-Boater section of the Perth ABT round which led to a place in the WA team at the 2005 Australian Bream Tournament Grand Final.

Brody mainly enjoys chasing Dhufish on lures in shallow water these days and continues to compete in Bream tournaments around WA. He is clearly very enthusiastic in his chosen sport and enjoys trying new equipment and techniques and is already a very accomplished fisherman for his age.
